Our December blog about the Employee of the Month is Alex C., who we here at Extra Special Teas call “Big Al.” The reason for this nickname is, aside from having a few fellow participants who share Al’s name, he is generally a huge ball of true enthusiasm and genuine excitement. Al’s sense of exuberance is truly contagious to me and is beautiful to witness. He is always laughing, has a great big smile on his face, or is almost bursting out with the joy he feels at the prospect of coming into work for the day and seeing all of his friends. Al's work ethic is amazing. He is always the first one to volunteer to fill in a shift if someone else is out, he rises to the challenge of learning any new skill he needs to do for the job at hand, and he responds to any situation at the tea house with a confident “ I'm on it”, “Absolutely!”, or a “ You can count on me.” Al is also a very eloquent communicator and can vocalize the way he feels well. He is also supportive of his friends or family, and attentive to the needs of any of the customers who come into the shop. If any one of us is having a bad day, Al, always curious, is quick to say “Tell me about how you are feeling.”, “ I understand, I'm here for you buddy”, or a heartfelt “I love you. “ For me especially, this sense of trust Al has built up with all of us is wonderful and can be much needed. His loyalty is incredible and Al’s effortless ability to believe in both his own abilities and, despite his still being relatively new to our EST workforce, everyone else's is truly astounding. Al is an advocate for both himself and others here and his positivity, genuine kindness, empathy and belief in the goodness of the world and its people is a beautiful thing. Al's presence at EST is great for employee morale and is a wonderful addition to our team.
